* * *

I have, occasionally, what I can only think of as minor, but intense, obsessions with certain things. I managed to hide this from my wife for a few years, but then, it seems, I built up a backlog and went completely insane for about week.

In that week I obtained, learned to use, and ended up injuring myself with a pair of nunchucks, bought a telescope and started teaching myself astronomy, decided I was going to make my own electric bass guitar out of several large pieces of mahogany, and endeavored to brew my own beer, a dark-chocolate infused stout I would have called “Snakey’s ChocoBrew”.

I’d like to think I have a sort of attention deficit disorder, but that’s not really my problem. I get too focused on things and begin shutting off outside influences to pursue my fleeting obsessions and then, after I have exhausted whatever I’m obsessed with, I completely abandon it and go after something else, which leaves my house full of interesting conversation pieces.

“Hey, where’d that chainsaw carving of a bear come from? That wasn’t on your porch last month, was it?”

“Who took all these tilt-shift camera pictures hanging in your hallway?”

“What happened to your fish? Why is your terrarium now full of crickets?”

It’s not FULL of crickets. More like half full. And what else was I supposed to feed my incoming shipment of Argentinian Jumping Spiders?

Like, duh.
